The 2nd freq_out cd after Ash 5.8 [2004] features the usual suspects; curated and conducted by Carl Michael von Hausswolff, freq_out 2 was recorded and performed for Ultima the Oslo Music Festival 2004, by: BJNilsen, J. G. Thirlwell, Jacob Kirkegaard, Jana Winderen, Maia Urstad, Kent Tankred, Finnbogi Pétursson, PerMagnus Lindborg, Brandon LaBelle, Franz Pommasl, Mike Harding and Tommi Grönlund & Petteri Nisunen. Much more 'ambient' than the spiky, threatening sonic conflict of the first freq_out CD, this second piece was featured in frieze magazine - 'Each detail, each instance of noise and silence, simply contributes to the kind of complex atmospheric and emotional swelling that most of us think of as the very essence of musicality. It has to be said: as music, Freq_Out provides a hugely enjoyable experience, and it gets better the longer you spend with it, as you gradually become attuned to the variations of this coming together of sound spaces. But it also has to be said that the integrative force of 'the mix' soon gives the territorial metaphor a more precise definition: that of a landscape. For this constantly evolving soundscape most of all evokes the kind of uncontrollable change produced by natural phenomena: but viewed as one big sublime process.' [Ina Blom] The 3rd freq_out will be held for 'Nuit Blanche', Paris, France, 1st October 2005 at the Communist Party building, Colonel Fabien, [designed by Oscar Niemeyer] in Belleville, Paris.'
Listening to this album is like diving in a sea of sound. Sometimes familiar sounds are surfacing. Deep listening to releases of this label is a form of Meditation. Every release is a world of its own ready to be discovered. And every time you visit, there will be something new to find in these deep waters. Retro Tape
I love it that I have to work myself through all thse layers of sounds and noises to get to the music - and of couse, these ARE the music. Listening to Philip Jeck's albums is challenging and at the same time utterly touching. And this fine collaboration is no exception. Sven
